Butter and Eggs Day Blotter: Petaluma Police See Scattered Problems

Petaluma police say Saturday was quieter than in previous years, with scattered fights, drunkenness and one DUI for an alleged partygoer.

PETALUMA - Petaluma police say Saturday's Butter and Eggs Day celebration was quieter than in previous years, with scattered fights, drunkenness and one DUI for an alleged Parade partygoer.

In total, there were five arrests for DUI between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., but police believe only one of the arrests appears to be from a subject who was drinking downtown.

Police have highlighted two incidents that occurred during the weekend festivities.

In one, Petaluma police say 25-year-old Warner Giron, a Petaluma resident, and 25-year-old Novato resident Aleksander Reyes were reportedly causing a disturbance inside the Hideaway bar.

Police say the two were arrested for public intoxication and booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

In the DUI arrest, police say Brock Simpson was stopped by a Petaluma police officer about 6:30 p.m. on East Washington St. after turning in front of and almost colliding with a vehicle.

Petaluma police say Simpson performed poorly on field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol level was .201, over double the legal limit of .08 in California.

Simpson was booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of DUI. His bail was set at $5,000, according to police.

Between 4:00 p.m. Saturday night and 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning Petaluma police say they received seven calls of subjects arguing or fighting and three calls for people who appeared to be intoxicated in the downtown area.

Petaluma police attribute the lack of significant problems to increased numbers of officers present and say communication between the security staffs of the Roaring Donkey, McGuire’s Pub and the police department was key.
