PETALUMA, CA — Cattlemens, a staple in the Petaluma community for over 50 years, announced it is closing its doors.

The steakhouse at 5012 Petaluma Blvd. North will close at the end of this year.

Since its opening in July 1970, the restaurant has been known for its hand-cut steaks, Western hospitality, and the creation of cherished memories for countless guests.

Cattlemens said in a statement that despite continued passion and commitment from its staff and leadership, the recent sale of the property and the approved planning for a new business development have made it necessary to close and vacate.

"It has been our honor and privilege to serve this community for over five decades," said Peter Mrozik, Cattlemens’ president. "We have had the pleasure of being a part of many family celebrations, community events, daily dinners, and we are deeply grateful to our loyal guests who have supported us throughout the years."

The Petaluma Cattlemens' final day of service is New Year's Eve. The restaurant thanked the community for its continued support. Before it closes, guests are invited to visit, share memories, and celebrate nostalgic get-togethers.

Cattlemens said it is proud of the impact it has had on the Petaluma community and looks forward to welcoming guests one last time to say farewell.

"We want to celebrate the wonderful memories we've created together and honor the dedicated employees who have made this restaurant feel like home for so many," said Miranda Smith, marketing manager.

Staff and management from the Petaluma location who are interested in staying with the company can transfer to Rohnert Park Cattlemens—which opened in January 2023—or its six other remaining locations in Roseville, Rancho Cordova, Selma, Livermore, Dixon and Redding.

Ranchers Pete Gilliam Sr. and Pete Gilliam Jr. opened the first Cattlemen's more than 55 years ago—in 1968—in Redondo Beach. In 1970, the second and third locations opened in Petaluma and Santa Rosa.

"Our team has been the heart of this place, and we couldn't have achieved our decades of success without them," Smith said.

Cattlemens' Rohnert Park location will remain open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily at 4619 Redwood Drive.
