Farmers' Industry Group Embezzlement Investigation "Complex": Reports

Authorities looking into an embezzling case at a farm bureau ​and its affiliated charity declined to say why they have made no arrests.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Authorities confirmed they are investigating an employee suspected of embezzling money from the Sonoma County Farm Bureau and its affiliated charity, the Farm Bureau Foundation of Sonoma County, but declined to say why they have not yet made an arrest.

The agriculture-industry group informed members and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office that an employee was suspected of embezzling about $375,000, according to reports.

The bureau launched a financial review and fired the employee.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed an investigation, but declined to provide additional details, calling the investigation “complex," according to the Press Democrat.

Farm Bureau President Pat Burns said the organization will replace any foundation funds not recovered.
