Father & Son Nab Suspects In Petaluma Outlets Robbery

Police said a father and son duo helped capture two Antioch men accused of stealing $18,000 in merchandise from a Sunglass Hut.

PETALUMA, CA — A father and his adult son captured two people suspected of taking $18,000 in merchandise in a robbery at the Sunglass Hut at the Petaluma Outlets, police said Friday.

The two men held Casey Canion and Keiarra Spencer, both 20-year-old Antioch residents, until officers could arrive, despite Canion spraying one of them with pepper spray in a bid to escape, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the Sunglass Hut about 12:30 p.m. Thursday for a robbery that had just occurred, police said.

Two people had gathered more than $18,000 of goods and pushed past a security guard who tried to stop them and gave chase, police said.

The father and son, who were shopping nearby, grabbed Canion and Spencer as they fled toward them, police said.

Canion and Spencer were accused of felony robbery and conspiracy, and Canion was also accused of felony illegal use of a tear gas weapon, police said.

The civilian who was sprayed in the eyes with pepper spray was treated by Petaluma Fire Department medics for minor injuries, police said.
