Gulch Fire Destroys Home, Outbuildings In Bay Area

Four structures, including one home, were lost to Wednesday's fire, Cal Fire reported.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Firefighters gained the upper hand Wednesday on a vegetation fire just east of Petaluma that destroyed a home and three outbuildings and damaged one other structure.

The Gulch Fire broke out shortly before 4:45 p.m. Wednesday near Old Adobe Road and Tunzi Lane in Lakeville. Cal Fire initiated a full wildland dispatch with air and ground resources.

As the wind-driven blaze moved uphill, multiple agencies also responded.

Crews stopped the fire's forward spread by 6 p.m.; by 7 p.m., it was 40 percent contained and 20 acres; and by 7:30 a.m. Thursday it was 95 percent contained, Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit reported.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
