PETALUMA, CA — A kitchen fire late Saturday afternoon in a Petaluma was put out quickly, but required the rescue of a disabled senior, a Petaluma Fire Department chief said. Because Petaluma crews were already handling other calls, crews from other agencies — Rancho Adobe Fire, Cal Fire and North Bay Fire — responded with one Petaluma crew on the initial call, said Petaluma Battalion Chief Chad Costa.

First on scene were Petaluma police officers, who were already helping four people, including one disabled senior, out of the smoky building, Costa said. No one was injured.

The fire was confined to the oven, and the only damage sustained was to the stove and light smoke damage in the rest of the house, Costa said.

Total damage, he said, is estimated at about $2,000.

Costa said that as fire department call volume increases year after year, outside agencies like Petaluma PD and the neighboring fire departments play an increasing role in helping Petaluma firefighters.
