Luma Ice, Sonoma County's 1st Real Outdoor Ice Rink, Comes To Petaluma

Here's what to know about Petaluma's inaugural outdoor ice-skating rink, which will open just in time for the holidays.

PETALUMA, CA — Luma Ice, the first outdoor ice-skating rink in Sonoma County, opens in 30 days at Petaluma Fairgrounds.

What To Know

Luma Ice opens Friday, Dec. 13, and runs through the holidays until Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the Fairgrounds' main parking lot, parallel to East Washington Street.

The rink, covered by a tent, has 5,600 square feet of natural, skateable ice and can accommodate up to 225 people skating at the same time. It is 1 foot off the ground and has 5-foot-high walls and spectator seating.

Luma Ice is more than just basic ice skating. There will be a small, trackless, electric train for children and adults to ride, a holiday marketplace with food and artisan-made crafts, an area for private party rentals, Pronzini’s Tree Lot, whimsical inflatables, a Sea Serpent art installation from Burning Man, silent discos, and themed skating nights.

Luma Ice is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, rain or shine, unless otherwise noted. To plan a visit, see the schedule below:

Dec. 13: Opening day schedule

  • School field trips 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Open to general public 4 p.m.- 10 p.m.

Dec. 14-16: Regular operating schedule, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Dec. 17-18: School field trips/special schedule

  • School field trips 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Open to the general public 4 p.m.-10 p.m.

Dec. 19-23: Regular operating schedule, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Dec. 24: Special Christmas Eve schedule, early closure

  • 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Dec. 25: CLOSED Christmas Day
Dec. 26-30: Regular operating schedule - 10 a.m -10 p.m.
Dec. 31: Special NYE extended schedule

  • Open until 11:59 p.m.

Jan. 1: New Year's Day special schedule, late opening

  • Open noon-10 p.m.

Jan. 2-7: Regular operating schedule, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; a new, two-hour drop-in skating session starts every two hours, with the last one at 8 p.m.

The rink is subject to close for private parties and private ice rental at any time.

More To Know

Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for youth/seniors/disabled, and free for children 3 and younger. Skate-glider and skate rentals are first come, first served, based on availability. It is strongly recommended that parents and/or guardians do not leave skaters younger than 16 unsupervised.

The rink and seating areas are cleared at the end of each session to allow room for the next session's guests.
