PETALUMA, CA — A Santa Rosa man out on parole is accused of attacking someone Tuesday at a Petaluma apartment complex, according to police.

In a news release, the Petaluma Police Department said officers and medics rushed to the Studios at Montero early Tuesday on reports of an assault victim requiring emergency aid. Officers arrived to find a man with significant injuries to his face and head, and medics took him to the hospital for treatment.

According to police, officers identified the suspect as Hiram Joseph, 52, of Santa Rosa, after speaking with the victim and witnesses. Investigators allege Joseph made contact with the victim at the door and assaulted him, causing him to lose consciousness, before leaving the scene in a vehicle.

Officers determined Joseph was on active parole, and required to wear a GPS ankle monitor, which they used to track him to South Santa Rosa. Petaluma police worked with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office to facilitate the arrest before transporting him to jail on suspicion of assault causing great bodily and a no-bail probation violation.

"The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office for their assistance," the department said Wednesday. "This incident is an excellent example of the routine collaboration that occurs daily between Sonoma County law enforcement agencies which undoubtedly keeps our communities safer."
