Man Beaten Unconscious In Petaluma, Suspect Arrested: Police
Witnesses helped officers find the suspect, a Larkfield man, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A man was hospitalized early Saturday morning after he was repeatedly punched in the face, and his suspected assailant was later arrested, police said. The attack was reported at 2:23 a.m. in the area of Petaluma Boulevard North at B Street, according to a news release from Petaluma police.
Police found the victim unconscious and bleeding from his head. Witnesses helped officers find the suspect, Mark Robert Ainger, of Larkfield, police said.
During a fight, Ainger had punched the victim in the face several times, continuing to hit him even after he passed out, and stomped on his head before leaving the scene, police said.

Ainger was on probation due to a 2015 driving under the influence conviction, and not allowed to consume alcohol. His blood alcohol, however, measured .15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and violation of probation and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

The victim was taken to a hospital. His condition was not available.
