McKinley School Locked Down As Police Search for Robbery Suspect

Reporting by Karina Ioffee

A search for a robbery suspect involving four local law enforcement agencies continues this afternoon while McKinley Elementary School remains on lockdown.

The search and lockdown stems from an incident that happened at 1:30 p.m., this afternoon at a Windsor cell phone store in which police say three men stole $3,000 worth of merchandise at gunpoint.

Windsor Police and the California Highway Patrol chased the suspects along southbound Highway 101, but were unable to capture the suspects.

Petaluma Police spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect car near McKinley Elementary School at 110 Ellis Street in Petaluma, and placed the school on lockdown while they searched for the suspects.

A helicopter was brought in as well as a police dog, helping apprehend three of the suspects. Police were still continuing to search for a fourth suspect, believed to the the driver.

Meanwhile, a crowd of parents have gathered in front of the school, where the students remained inside, while traffic multiplied on East Washington Street and the surrounding streets.

The Petaluma Police Department is joined by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department, the California Highway Patrol, and the Windsor Police Department in the search.
