SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Opening statements begin Monday in the high-profile trial of animal activist Zoe Rosenberg, a case that could impact the animal rights movement.
A judge swore in a 12-person jury Thursday after seven days of jury selection.
The court summoned more than 300 potential jurors due to extensive pre-trial publicity about the case that has attracted public debate.

Rosenberg faces five felony counts and up to five years in prison if convicted of trespassing, conspiracy, and other offenses alleged by the Sonoma County district attorney, including "unauthorized visits" to Petaluma Poultry, owned by Perdue Farms Inc.
As the trial neared, Sonoma County farmers and industry executives launched a campaign aimed at Rosenberg and activists like her.

Rosenberg is a member of DxE. The group describes itself as a global grassroots network of animal rights activists. Over the past five years, they staged a string of attention-grabbing actions, including unauthorized visits to animal facilities, like the one Rosenberg is being tried for.
