Petaluma Citywide Streetlight Replacement Project Set To Start
The city's Department of Public Works and Utilities will replace some 3,500 streetlights throughout the city.

PETALUMA, CA — Nearly all residential streetlights in Petaluma will be retrofitted with energy efficient LED fixtures starting March 1, the Petaluma Police Department said. The existing high-pressure sodium streetlights will be replaced by the Department of Public Works and Utilities on approximately 3,500
streetlights throughout the city through June, police said.
The lights will have a warmer color than other LED lights in the city, and four lights have been installed on English Street at City Hall as a demonstration.
The replacement does not include post-top lights downtown, the teardrop-style lights like those at the East Washington Street and McDowell Boulevard intersection or lights in parking lots and certain developments,
police said.

There will be short-term lane and shoulder closures and a temporary loss of on-street parking while a truck is parked under each streetlight during the 15-minute replacement, police said.
The LED lights use less electricity and maintenance and provide better and safer streets, police said. Money saved using the more energy efficient LED lights will help upgrade streets and traffic signals, and some,
but not all non-working streetlights will be repaired whenever possible police said.
