Petaluma Death Notices: Tribute Concert Friday for 'Judge' Murphy

A tribute concert will be held at 9 p.m. Friday in Petaluma for Ross Sheffield "Judge" Murphy, who died Sept. 15 at his home in rural El Dorado County. Murphy sang in the Bay Area rock bands ZERO and Lansdale Station. Proceeds from the concert, at the Mystic Theatre, 23 Petaluma Blvd., will go toward a college fund for Murphy's 9-year-old daughter, Lyba.

William Thomas Gramling, 50, died Oct. 16. The Bethesda, MD, native was known as a skilled auto and marine mechanic, according to an obituary posted by the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory.

Czechoslovakia-native Marie L. Holubar, 93, died Oct. 13. She fled her home country in 1948, lived in San Francisco and later moved to Petaluma in 1982.

Doris B. Nathan, a Petaluma native who grew up on a chicken ranch and later taught high school and flew as a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots, died Oct. 13 in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born in 1916.

Fred L. Volkerts, Jr., died Oct. 11 at the age of 90. He was a marine during World War II and a retired dairy farmer and welder. 

Chu Juin "Andy" Chang, a 53-year-old Petaluma resident born in Seoul, died Oct. 1. He was owner and chef of Taki Japanese Restaurant in Novato.

Kathleen M. Kaul, a Beaver Dam, WI, native, died Oct. 1 at the age of 51. She moved in Petaluma in 1987 and worked in the hospitality industry.

William Tamotsu Sueoka, 75, died Oct. 1. He was a Petaluma native who grew up on a chicken farm and was sent to an internment camp in World War II. He became a pathologist and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, then led a clinical lab at a southern California hospital.
