Petaluma Man Steals Car Left 'Warming Up': Police

The 27-year-old allegedly also had drugs on him and ran through an elementary school as police were pursuing him, police allege.

PETALUMA, CA — Petaluma police arrested a man on suspicion of stealing a vehicle that was warming up unattended at a residence this morning. The theft in the 400 block of Stuart Drive was reported around
7:05 a.m. Monday. An officer saw the stolen vehicle on Ely Boulevard with the suspect who drove at high speeds through residential neighborhoods, police Sgt. Lance Novello said.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Robert Moore of Petaluma, parked the vehicle and ran through an elementary school, Novello said.

Another officer spotted Moore walking away from the school and Moore was found in possession of the vehicle owner's property, burglary tools, a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, Novello said.

Moore has several arrest warrants and prior convictions for vehicle theft. He was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of the theft and drug offenses and reckless evasion.
