Arson Suspect Found 'Feeding The Flames' Of A Fire: Petaluma Police

Petaluma Police said officers alerted to the fire in the River Plaza found a man and an active fire.

PETALUMA, CA — Petaluma police said they arrested a man suspected of arson at the scene of a fire in the River Plaza parking lot.

Police said officers alerted to the fire on Sept. 16 in the plaza found the man and a fire that was still burning.

They identified him as Abraham Jordan, 49. He faces a charge of unlawfully causing a fire.

Fire investigators extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby vehicles, businesses, or landscaping, police said.

Intentionally setting fires of any kind poses a serious risk to public safety, property, and emergency resources, a Petaluma Police Department official said on Facebook.

"Sonoma County has already experienced devastating losses to fires in previous years. We don’t need any more. We are grateful that our officers and fire investigators were able to respond quickly and prevent this fire from spreading. With that being said, it’s important to remember that even small fires can escalate quickly and cause significant harm."

Officials asked the public to immediately report any suspicious fire activity to 911.
