Petaluma Police To Host National Night Out

PETALUMA, CA — Petaluma police invite residents to join the department Tuesday for its annual National Night Out.

The event is from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds. It will feature free food, games, prizes, a blood drive, K9s, safety vehicles, and more.

Since 1984, National Night Out has been held annually on the first Tuesday of August. The goal is to promote safer communities through knowing your neighbors and local police officers.

To date, some 17,000 communities across the United States have signed on for the event. In California, Napa is one of 365 participating cities.

"The best way to build a safer community is to know your neighbors and your surroundings," said Kay Bailey Hutchison, a former U.S. senator. "National Night Out triumphs over a culture that isolates us from each other and allows us to rediscover our own communities."
