Petaluma Transient Accused Of Sexual Assault

Police arrested the 57-year-old after locating him inside his truck while parked at the Mary Isaak Center Shelter.

PETALUMA, CA Petaluma police arrested a transient on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 51-year-old woman he was dating and pushing her out of his moving vehicle last week, police said today. Officers responded at about 8:35 a.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Fairgrounds Drive on a report of an alleged assault.

The 51-year-old woman, also a transient, said she was sexually assaulted in the suspect's truck near Payran Street and Lindberg Lane.

Lt. Tim Lyons said she suffered pain in her ribs and minor lacerations.

An officer located the truck and the suspect, Mark Lewis, 57, inside the truck at the Mary Isaak Center Shelter at 900 Hopper St., Lyons said.

Lewis was booked in the Sonoma County jail on suspicion of domestic violence battery with injury, sexual assault and false imprisonment.
