Just about everyone in town was there — can you spot anyone you know in these photos?

PETALUMA, CA — The Annual Butter & Egg Days Parade was held in Petaluma on April 19, a celebration of the community's historic farming heritage and community spirit.

Photographer Al Francis shared dozens of remarkable photos of the event, and provided this narrative of the day, "One of the most popular North Bay family events drew an estimated 30,000 visitors, according to a long time resident, recently for the 42nd Annual Butter & Egg Day Parade in downtown Petaluma.

"This year’s theme of ‘Petaluma’s Wonderland-Where Imagination Blooms’ was spread through the streets for the hour and half parade.

"Before the parade kicked off, there was the Cutest Little Chick in Town contest with 66 youngsters dressed as chicks to impress the judges at Judy’s Barnyard Stage. One contestant was only ‘hatched’ one month earlier. Aniya, 2, and big sister Aurora, 3, Jenkins of Cotati won first place which included participating in the main parade along with other winners.

"About 170 vehicles, floats, community groups, marching bands and some horses trekked through the historic downtown. Some 2,000 participants were involved in the parade.

"The Clover Sonoma float won the Sweepstakes Award for most outstanding use of the theme.

"Elsie Allen High School band walked off with first place in the marching band category, while Petaluma High School snared 2nd place.

"First place for Performance was awarded to the colorful and enthusiastic Esforco Carnival San Francisco group and Ballet Folklorico Paqviyollotzin danced off with 2nd place."
