Petaluma's Good Egg Award Goes To Faith Ross
The 2024 honors went to Faith Ross, the co-founder of a nonprofit that has organized Petaluma's Black History Month for four decades.
PETALUMA, CA — Petaluma kicks off its Butter & Egg Days each year by honoring a Petaluman with The Good Egg award.
This year, the award went to Faith Ross, co-founder of Petaluma Blacks for Community Development, a nonprofit that for four decades has organized the town’s Black History Month program and has fostered awareness of the African American community. Ross has also dedicated her time to the Human Rights Commission, the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum and the Petaluma Christian Church.
The Petaluma Downtown Association accepts nominations each year for the Good Egg Award. Nominees should be Petalumans whose efforts over time have helped highlight, preserve and contribute to the positive promotion of the city of Petaluma.

The goal of The Good Egg award program is to encourage all to become advocates of the unique qualities of Petaluma and act as ambassadors for Petaluma’s heritage in their day-to-day lives. The Good Egg should be a role model for this. See the list of past Good Eggs.

Ross was officially recognized with the award April 13 as part of the opening ceremonies for the 2024 Butter & Egg Days. The ceremonies took place at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum. Mayor Kevin McDonnell and other dignitaries read proclamations honoring Ross as the 2024 Good Egg and Michael "Bug" Deakin of Heritage Salvage as the grand marshal for the 2024 Butter & Egg Days Parade.

The selection of Deakin was fitting, given the environmentally friendly nature of this year’s parade theme, "Greener Pastures: Sustaining Petaluma’s Future." The theme celebrates Petaluma as a regional and national leader in climate action.
Deakin is a purveyor of reclaimed building materials and the epitome of sustainable enthusiasm. Through reclamation and preservation, he and his team at Heritage Salvage source materials from around the world giving new life to the old.
