Bay Area Fire Evacuations, 1.1K Acres Burns, Smell Of Smoke Widespread
The Point Fire had burned 1,100 acres and was 20 percent contained early Monday, according to Cal Fire.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The Point Fire in northern Sonoma County has reached around 1,100 acres, said Cal Fire, who noted that the blaze might further swell on Monday.
As of 6:05 a.m. Monday, crews have contained 20% of the blaze near Lake Sonoma, according to fire officials.
The wildfire began near Skaggs Springs Road around 12:30 p.m. Sunday and spread west of Dry Creek Road near the southeast region of Lake Sonoma. By 8:30 p.m., it already affected over 900 acres, according to Cal Fire.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office on Sunday night said hundreds of people were evacuated from zone SON-2E2, in the Dry Creek Valley. An evacuation warning was also raised over Zone SON-2E3, also in the Dry Creek Valley in the area north of Mill Creek Road, south of Chemise Road, east of Wallace Creek Road and west of Dry Creek, placing over 4,000 residents on high alert.
Evacuees took refuge in Laguna High School in Forestville.

Due to smoke from the fire affecting the North Bay, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air alert for both Sunday and Monday in the region.
