San Antonio Fire Burns 23.5 Acres Near Petaluma; 2 Other Fires Doused

The wildfire broke out around 3 p.m. Friday and threatened at least one structure.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Forward progress of the San Antonio Fire near Petaluma was stopped shortly after 4 p.m. Friday and was holding at 38 acres, Cal Fire said. In another update at 5:20 p.m., officials said the fire was adjusted to 23.55 acres after better mapping from @FIRIS sensor aircraft was used.

The wildfire broke out around 3 p.m. Friday in the area of San Antonio Road and D Street southwest of Petaluma in unincorporated Sonoma County and threatened at least one structure.

Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit responded to the blaze alongside several local fire crews from the Novato Fire Protection District, Marin County Fire Department, Petaluma Fire Department, Sonoma County Fire District and Gold Ridge Fire.

At 3:15 p.m., the fire was 5 acres and burning in light, flashy fuels at a moderate rate of spread with one structure immediately threatened. Smoke was visible throughout the area.

Additional air and ground resources were ordered at 3:30 p.m. as the blaze grew to 15-20 acres in grass with a moderate rate of spread.

The fire was 30 acres by 4 p.m. and reached the top of the hill but shortly thereafter, Cal Fire reported forward progress was stopped at 38 acres.

"Crews will remain at the scene working on containment and putting out hot spots. Aerial resources have been released," Cal Fire LNU said on Twitter.

In a final update at 5:20 p.m., the fire's size was adjusted but its cause was under investigation.

Cal Fire noted two other fires broke out around the same time Friday afternoon in Sonoma County and all three were contained within one hour.
