'Saturation Saturday' Patrols Return To Petaluma

With eight DUI arrests in just the last week, Petaluma officers will be boosting patrols and sobriety checkpoints this weekend.

PETALUMA, CA — The Petaluma Police Department will be out in force this weekend for "Saturation Saturday," an annual increase in patrols and sobriety checkpoints held each year on the weekend before Labor Day. Officers will be out on the roads working to reduce the number of drivers who are drunk or under the influence of drugs.

The department said eight people were arrested for suspected DUI in Petaluma in just the last week.

"While it may seem like the primary point of us conducting these grant-funded operations is to make a large number of arrests, our primary goal is always to prevent them from happening in the first place by educating the community and adding extra patrols to serve as a deterrent for potential impaired drivers to say off the road," police wrote Thursday. "Plan for a safe ride home, or be a safe ride home.

Police urge residents to consider utilizing a rideshare, cab or designated driver, and to report suspected impairment by calling 911.
