Speeders Beware: New Radar Feedback Trailer Coming To SoCo Roads

Placement of the trailer is in response to concerns about aggressive and unsafe driving.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — In response to concerns about aggressive and unsafe driving, officials with Sonoma County's Department of Transportation and Public Works plan to place a new radar feedback sign trailer that alerts drivers to their speed on some segments of roads in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The radar feedback sign trailer will alert drivers to their speed and will include data collection technology on the number of drivers. Under the county's new traffic calming program, the trailer will be placed along roads for two weeks when requested by residents.

The Department of Transportation and Public Works will track the effectiveness of the program and locations on an ongoing basis.

"While most accidents and fatalities are caused by impaired, distracted or aggressive driving, the speed trailer is a temporary and visible effort to support law enforcement and bring awareness to trouble spots where motorists are driving beyond a safe and legal limit," said Department of Transportation and Public Works Director Johannes Hoevertsz.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Allan Capurro said the radar trailer helps combat unsafe driving and excessive speeding, which are the most prevalent factor in injury collisions in the county.
