Teen Arrested In Downtown Petaluma Assault: Police

An 18-year-old boy was punched several times and suffered multiple head injuries, police said.

PETALUMA, CA — A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of beating up an 18-year-old boy Friday in downtown Petaluma, police said.

Dispatchers received a phone call at 7:51 p.m. about an assault in the 60 block of East Washington Street. The reporting party — later identified as the victim — told police he was beaten up.

The person suspected in the assault left the scene before officers got there, but they did speak with the 18-year-old victim.

Officers then reviewed surveillance video from a nearby business and determined the suspect had approached the victim and punched him, causing the victim to fall to the ground. While on the ground, the suspect continued punching the victim, police said.

The victim suffered several injuries to his head. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and later self-transported himself to a nearby hospital.

Officers determined the suspect was a 17-year-old Petaluma resident who knew the victim. The juvenile suspect was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and was taken to the Sonoma County Juvenile Detention Center in Santa Rosa.

The Petaluma Police Department asked anyone with information leading up to the assault or who may have witnessed the assault to call Officer Cody Giles at 707-781-1250.
