Chefs Hope to Open Lakeshore Restaurant with Kickstarter Funding
Shakewell Bar & Kitchen plans a Mediterranean-American menu and seasonal cocktails in a casual atmosphere. Plus more news of the Grand Avenue and Lakeshore business districts.

Two former chefs from Scala's Bistro in San Francisco hope to open a Mediterranean-American restaurant in the Lakeshore area, Ken Katz reports in the latest issue of the Splash Pad Newsletter.
Jennifer Biesty and Tim Nugent aim to raise $100,000 toward Shakewell Bar & Kitchen in the next three weeks through Kickstarter, the newsletter says. They've already raised more than $30,000.
The restaurant will serve lunch, dinner and weekend brunch along with seasonal cocktails, the Kickstarter site says. Read more about Shakewell Bar & Kitchen here.
The newsletter also gives an early look at plans for the tenth anniversary of Splash Pad Park at Lake Merritt, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 20. Among the events: at least five live bands and, in the beer-wine area, kegs from Linden Street Brewery.
Volunteers are needed for the anniversary steering committee and for a work day at the park on Sunday, Aug. 18. See the newsletter for details of how to volunteer.
