Piedmont Police Reported More Crimes to FBI in 2012

Piedmont police reported 13 violent crimes in 2012. That’s an increase of five violent crimes over 2011.
The number of property crimes also increased, from 282 in 2011 to 333 last year. In 2012, Piedmont had a violent crime rate of 1.1 known offenses per 1,000 residents and a property crime rate of 30 known offenses per 1,000 people.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.
The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Piedmont had 1.7 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents in 2012, which is substantially above the East Bay average of 1.2.
