PIEDMONT, CA -- The City of Piedmont will host a Town Hall on June 7th at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to provide an opportunity for Piedmont residents to learn more about the Draft Housing Element.

The Piedmont Housing Element is one of the required elements (chapters) of the Piedmont General Plan, the constitution for land development and City services in Piedmont. Every eight years, cities must update their Housing Elements to identify the sites and programs that are going to make each city capable of producing the housing unit quotas established by the State of California’s regional housing needs allocation (RHNA) process.

As required by state law, Piedmont must update the Housing Element to demonstrate that there is the capacity to meet its housing quota and is pro-actively facilitating housing production for all income groups.

The Town Hall will provide an opportunity for community members to pose questions about the document. Following a short presentation addressing some of the issues, a panel will provide responses to questions submitted by attendees.

Officials say the city has received over 275 written comments from community members on the Draft Housing Element via email, and heard from over 50 community members at an April 19 Housing Advisory Committee meeting and the May 12 Planning Commission meeting.

“Several of those comments included questions," said Kevin Jackson, the City’s Director of Planning & Building. "We intend to provide answers to those questions and clarity on the purpose and scope of the Draft Housing Element at this Town Hall Q&A meeting.”

Residents can participate in the Zoom meeting or watch the meeting by tuning to KCOM TV, Comcast channel 27 or AT&T channel 99.
