At its March 9th meeting, the Piedmont Unified Board of Education:

Approved the 2021-22 Second Interim Budget Report and Adopted Resolution 22-2021-22 – Recognition of Possible Need for Budget Adjustment in Fiscal Year 2022-23 and Beyond – The Second Interim Report for Fiscal Year 2021-22 provides an update of actual expenditures and revenues through January 31, 2022, and a projection of the budget adjustments necessary to get to the end of the fiscal year. The Second Interim also includes a multiyear projection (MYP) that shapes the budget development process for 2022-23. Based on the projections for expenditures through the end of the fiscal year and assumptions for future years, the District will meet the 3% reserve in the current and two subsequent fiscal years, with possible budget adjustments needed in 2022- 23 and 2023-24, As a result, the Board certified the Second Interim as “Positive” and adopted Resolution 22-2021-22, recognizing the need to monitor and adjust the budget, if needed, in fiscal year 2022-23 and beyond. Approved and Adopted Resolution 23-2021-22 – Decrease The Number Of Classified Employees Due To A Lack Of Work And/Or Lack Of Funds – California Education Code 45117 specifies the process for laying-off classified employees. The law changed as of January 1, 2022, and now requires that notice be given as of March 15 for the upcoming school year to employees whose services will not be required due to lack of work or lack of funds. Prior law required a 60-day notice and was not tied to the start of the school year. The Board of Education must approve the reductions to positions prior to the March 15 date. Read full background.

Discussed the BESS (Social and Emotional Health) Screener Results – Goal #1 in the District’s Strategic Plan (LCAP) states: All students and staff will feel physically safe and emotionally supported as part of a caring and inclusive community. PUSD staff administers the BASC-3 Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BASC-3 BESS) as its universal screener for social-emotional health.
