PUSD announced the decision December 17th after evaluating turf conditions and determining the field is currently unsafe for use by students or the public. Witter Field will remain closed until the turf and subbase are repaired. The surrounding track and restrooms above the bleachers will remain open for community use.
Recent heavy rains caused subbase materials to shift and turf material to stretch and tear resulting in holes, ridges and elevation changes that present significant tripping hazards.

PUSD has contacted Field Turf, the company that originally installed and currently maintains the turf, to request emergency repairs. Field Turf will be sending a crew to assess the scope of work. At the same time, PUSD will work to obtain the necessary equipment for District personnel to make temporary repairs. The turf will be peeled back to restore and level the subbase materials, cut out and replace damaged sections of the turf, and glue the turf back into place. An estimated date for the repairs to be completed is not known at this time.
Currently, Piedmont High School Boys and Girls Soccer are the only athletic teams regularly using the field during the Winter Sports Season. Alternative practice and game locations will be announced once determined.
