Police Blotter: 3 Home Burglaries, Graffiti Outbreak, Skunk Again

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log Feb. 15-21. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

Among the more serious crimes in Piedmont in recent days were three home burglaries, a stolen car, mail thefts and three cases of identity theft.  

FRIDAY, FEB. 15

Identity theft – A man called from Estates Drive to report a case of identity theft.

Skunk problem – A caller reported a "skunk problem."

SATURDAY, FEB. 16 

Found bike – A woman working out at the high school track called police saying she found a red, white and black "Cruiser type" bike in the bleachers next to the parking lot. Police are storing it as found property.

Mail theft – A woman on the first block of Selborne Drive reported mail theft, and a neighor also reported finding open mailboxes and that she did not receive any mail the day before.

Skateboard violation – A caller reported a group of 10 teens on skateboards "over by Sylvan."

Stolen car – At 4:52 p.m., a man on the 400 block of Linda Avenue reported a stolen green Subaru last seen two hours earlier.

Noise Complaint – At 11:42 p.m., police received a noise complaint from the 200 block of Palm Drive about a basketball game in the street. Responding police advised the players of the applicable Piedmont city ordinanaes.

SUNDAY, FEB. 17

Residential burglary – A caller in the 200 block of Ricardo Avenue reported a break-in at a residence that occurred sometime between the previous Friday and the time of the call, which was 4:22 p.m. Entry was gained through a rear glass door.

Residential burglary – A caller in the first block of Park Way reported a residence that had been broken into sometime the day before or the day of the call.

“Gun shot” heard – At 5:59 p.m., a caller in the 400 block of Pala Avenue reported hearing a gun shot. An officer spoke with a neighbor. “They heard fireworks earlier, part of a ritual.”

Pedestrian stop – At 7:22 p.m. at 41^st and Linda Avenue, Oakland, a pedestrian was stopped and “advised of jaywalking in front of [a Piedmont] police officer.”

MONDAY, FEB. 18

Identity theft – A woman on Lorita Avenue reported a case of identity theft.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 20

Wallet found – A man’s black wallet was found and turned into the police department.

THURSDAY, FEB. 21

Residential burglary – A caller from the 1600 block of Grand Avenue reported a house burglary sometime between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. that day.

Porta potty toppled – A caller at 10:54 p.m. in the 400 block of Mountain Avenue reported the someone tipped over a Porta Potty and heard a car speed away. A responding officer found no spillage.

FRIDAY, FEB. 22

Girls “doorbell ditching” – A caller at 11:03 p.m. said a group of girls in a silver Mini with a black stripe were “doorbell ditching” him. A second caller reported the vehicle going up Magnolia  Avenue with lights off and horn honking.

Identity theft – A caller on Ramona Avenue reported a case of identity theft.

SATURDAY, FEB. 24

Vandalism – Police found a sign that was spraypainted at Grand Avenue / Lower Grand.

Vandalism – A woman in the 1600 block of Lower Grand Avenue reported that her vehicle had been spraypainted.

Vandalism – A woman reported graffiti on a bridge at 11 Cambridge.

Vandalism – A woman reported reported graffiti on the front wall of her house in the 1500 block of Grand.

Vandalism – A woman reported graffiti on the sidewalk in front of her house in the 1600 block of Lower Grand.

Vandalism – A woman in 1600 block of Lower Grand reported graffiti on her vehicle.

SUNDAY, FEB. 25

Vandalism – A woman in first block of Cambridge Way reported graffiti on her vehicle.
