Police Blotter: Arrests, Dog Bite, Baby Skunks, Identity Theft

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Aug. 12 through noon, Aug. 16. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.
TUESDAY, AUG. 13
Arrests — One person was arrested on suspicion of a Health & Safety Code violation on Mountain Avenue about 12:20 a.m. and the person's vehicle was towed. H&S Code violations often, but not always, involve illegal drug violations. In a separate incident, a person was arrested after a welfare check on Grand Avenue about 3:30 a.m.

Dog bite — A woman told police she was bitten by a dog near the corner of Crocker and Farragut avenues shortly before 7 a.m. The dog's owner refused to identify himself, she said.

Cute little stinkers — Baby skunks were reported on Fairview Avenue at 9:25 a.m. An animal control officer responded. Animal control also dealt with incidents involving raccoons and a deceased opossum later in the day.

Fraud — A Wyngard Avenue resident was the target of an attempted fraud, but her bank blocked the attempt.

Arrest — A person driving a white Jeep Cherokee with no license plates near Hillside and Oakland avenues shortly before 11 p.m. was arrested on suspicion of a Health & Safety Code violation. H&S Code arrests often, but not always, involve illegal drug violations.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14

ID theft — A Jerome Avenue resident reported being the victim of identity theft.

THURSDAY, AUG. 15

Vehicle burglary — See "Piedmont Man Captures Suspected Car Burglar" for details of an early morning car burglary on York Drive and subsequent arrest.

Thefts from vehicles — Greenbank and and Kingston avenue residents both reported thefts from parked vehicles that were discovered between 6 and 7 a.m.
