Police Blotter: Home Burglary, Carjacking, Auto Theft Attempt

A carjacking attempt, the discovery of a man's body near Moraga and Pleasant Valley avenues and a home burglary made for an eventful week in Piedmont and nearby.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Oct. 7 through noon, Oct. 11. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

MONDAY, OCT. 7

ID theft — A Wildwood Avenue resident reported being the victim of identity theft.

Warrant arrest — A Brentwood woman was arrested on outstanding warrants for resisting arrest and prostitution. For details, see "Police Notes: Missing Jewelry, Warrant Arrest for Prostitution and Injury to Officer."

TUESDAY, OCT. 8

Petty theft — A wallet containing identification and credit cards was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked on Estrella Avenue sometime during the night.

Vehicle accident — An injury accident was reported near the corner of Grand and Parkside avenues about 8:40 a.m.

Attempted auto theft — Someone tried unsuccessfully to steal a Ford Explorer on Hampton Avenue. Police said a door lock and the ignition were damaged in the attempt. 

Noise complaint — Police issued a warning citation to someone using a gas-powered leaf blower on Monte Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. 

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 9

Noise at night — A resident reported hearing banging noises outside and seeing what appeared to be a utility truck driving away on Trestle Glen Road about 12:40 a.m. Police caught up with the truck a few blocks away and spoke with the driver, a PG&E employee who said he had made the noise while responding to a service call about flickering lights.

Outside assist — Piedmont police assisted the Oakland Police Department with traffic control at Moraga and Pleasant Valley avenues starting about 3:30 p.m. after a ' body was found in the area. For details, see "Man's Body Found Near Moraga and Pleasant Valley."

THURSDAY, OCT. 10

Home burglary — A home in the 100 block of St. James Drive was burglarized. Police said a resident arrived home about 3:35 p.m. and found the front door forced open.

FRIDAY, OCT. 11

Carjacking — A group of men attempted to carjack a Piedmont woman's car on Ronada Avenue about 11:15 a.m. See "Piedmont Woman Narrowly Escapes Carjacking Attempt" for details.
