Police Blotter: Phone Fraud, Home Burglary, Early Risers at Linda Beach Playfield

The weekend crime report from the Piedmont Police Department.

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Aug. 16 through noon, Aug. 19. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

SATURDAY, AUG. 17

Fraud — A Piedmont resident reported sending money to a person who fraudulently identified himself or herself as a relative in a phone conversation.

Identity theft — Two Piedmont residents, members of the same family, reported that someone has opened credit accounts in their names.

SUNDAY, AUG. 18

Suspicious circumstances — A report of flashing lights and a woman's voice near the intersection of Monticello and Arroyo avenues at 1:42 a.m. turned out to be a taxi dropping off a passenger.

Too early — Three neighbors separately reported that people were using the Linda Beach Playfield before 8 a.m. Police contacted the early morning sports fans and advised them of the rules.

Accident — A vehicle vs. bicycle accident was reported on Nova Drive at 8:33 p.m. It appears no one was seriously injured.

MONDAY, AUG. 19 

Residential burglary — A Pala Avenue resident reported finding the screen on a kitchen window cut the previous night. Further details weren't immiediately available.
