Police Blotter: Stolen Bikes and Cars, Suspicious Dog Walker

Incidents highlighted in the blotter were recorded in the Piedmont Police Department log from noon on Sept. 20 through noon, Sept. 23. Not all incidents recorded in the log are included here. Information was supplied by the police and does not indicate any convictions.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 20

Suspicious circumstances — A caller reported a bearded man wearing a hat and walking a dog on Jerome and Magnolia avenues shortly before 5 p.m. When police caught up with the man on Blair Avenue, they found he was, indeed, a man talking his dog for a walk.

Grand theft — A citizen reported a bicycle stolen from a vehicle on Sunnyside Avenue. 

Suspicious circumstances — An Estates Drive resident reported that an unknown person came to the door shortly after 10 p.m. and said he was lost. About 10 minutes later a motorist flagged down a police officer to ask for directions. Police determined that it was the same person who had knocked at the door.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21

It's late — Police advised a juvenile who was walking near the corner of Lexford and Hampton roads at 1:20 p.m. that the city has a curfew.

Stolen car — A Honda Accord was reported stolen from Monticello Avenue.

ID theft — A Wyngaard Avenue resident reported being the victim of identity theft.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 22

Dog rescue — An Oakland Avenue resident found an injured and exhausted female pit bull on her front porch about 8:30 a.m. An animal control officer transported the dog to a veterinary hospital.

Auto recovery — A Wyngaard Avenue resident reported that a blue Saturn had been pared nearby for a week, with the widows rolled down and a purse inside. Police determined that the car had been stolen in Contra Costa County and contacted the registered owner.

Burglary — A bicycle was reported stolen from an open garage on Selborne Drive between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
