Piedmont Unified School District students return to the classroom today (Wednesday, Aug. 21) for the first day of the 2013-2014 school year.
For parents of children entering kindergarten, it's likely to be a an emotional day full of hugs, photographs and possibly a few tears.
Two schools start the year with new principals: Brent Daniels at Piedmont High School and Ryan Fletcher at Piedmont Middle School.
At Corpus Christi School, students in grades 1-8 begin classes today, while kindergartners start school tomorrow, Aug. 29. Both days are minimum days.
Zion Lutheran School students start the new year next Tuesday, Aug. 27.
Drivers are reminded to use extra caution near the city's schools.
