This Week: Zoning Changes at City Council, School Board Session with Assemblymember Nancy Skinner

What's happening with Piedmont's city government and the Piedmont Unified School District this week:

CITY COUNCIL

The Piedmont City Council will consider items with possibly major impacts on the city's future and its budget tonight.

Among the agenda items:

—First reading of an ordinance that includes a variety of changes to the city's planning code, including a controversial provision to allow mixed commercial/residential development in commercial zones; to permit installation of exterior security cameras on homes without design review; and a package of other changes related mainly to housing issues.

—Several labor agreements with groups of city employees, including a Memorandum of Understanding with the Piedmont Police Officers Association that provides a 3 percent annual salary increase for four years.

The council meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in the City Hall council chambers, 120 Vista Ave.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Piedmont Unified School District's Board of Education will hold a study session with state Assemblymember Nancy Skinner Monday, Nov. 18, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. to discuss issues affecting education in California. The meeting will be held in the district's conference room at 760 Magnolia Ave.

RECREATION COMMISSION

A regularly scheduled meeting of the city's Recreation Commission on Wednesday, Nov. 20, has been cancelled.
