Hercules Woman Loses Thousands in Identity Theft

Police are investigating the loss of $5,000, fraudulent credit cards, and bank accounts.

HERCULES, CA- Police in Hercules are investigating an identity theft case in which suspects were able to withdraw $5,000 from a victim's bank accounts and open a fraudulent credit card in her name.

Officers responded Sunday to the 100 block of Cardoza Street to investigate a case of identity theft.

The victim told police she discovered on March 9 that a suspect opened a fraudulent Office Depot credit card account in her name in San Jose and then charged approximately $2,000 to the account.

She said the suspect was also able to withdraw $3,500 from her savings account and $1,500 from her checking account from bank branch locations in San Jose, police said.
