Pinole City Attorney Survives Attempt To Fire Him

The City Council votes 3-2 to retain the services of attorney Ben Reyes amid concern over cell phone tower lease

The Pinole City Council has voted to keep Ben Reyes as its city attorney, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.

The council voted 3-2 at a special meeting last week to retain Reyes.

Mayor Debbie Long and Councilman Phil Green voted to oust Reyes while council members Tim Banuelos, Peter Murray and Roy Swearingen voted to keep him, the Times reported.

The vote occurred after the council held a closed-door session to evaluate Reyes' performance involving a lease with Verizon for a cell phone tower in Pinole Valley Park.

In June, the council rejected the lease, but in July it reversed itself and approved the agreement after it was revealed city officials had already signed a lease with the phone company earlier this year.
