Driver Dies After Crashing Into East Bay Home

BREAKING: The man was traveling south on Interstate Highway 880 when he lost control of his vehicle.

EAST BAY, CA -- A man who died in Pleasant Hill after his vehicle crashed into an unoccupied home on the morning of Jan. 10 has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner's office as 77-year-old Wallace Ryburn of Danville.

Ryburn, according to the California Highway Patrol, was traveling south on Interstate Highway 880 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a vacant home on Contra Costa Boulevard just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Although emergency personnel arrived on scene and began administering life-saving procedures to Ryburn before he was transported to a hospital, while at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Investigators say they don't yet know whether he died from injuries from the crash or a medical condition.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor; the incident remains under investigation.
