Pleasanton Hires New City Manager
City council approved the employment contract this week.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — At its meeting on April 19, 2022, the Pleasanton City Council approved the employment contract with Girard (Gerry) Beaudin to serve as the City’s next permanent city manager. Following on the retirement of former City Manager Nelson Fialho, the City Council worked with an executive recruiter to conduct an extensive recruitment process to fill this position.
Since Fialho’s departure on November 30, 2021, Assistant City Manager Brian Dolan has been serving as interim city manager. Beaudin has more than 19 years of public management experience, having held progressively more responsible roles, including four years as the City of Pleasanton’s Community Development Director, and the last two and half years as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Alameda. With those agencies, Beaudin was responsible for long-range and current land use planning, building permit plan check and inspections, traffic planning and engineering, as well as municipal finance, strategic planning, and goal setting, and developing a wide range of services and programs.

Prior to this, Beaudin’s civic experience in California includes developing and implementing land use plans, projects, economic development strategies, community engagement initiatives, and public policy recommendations for the cities of Los Altos, South San Francisco, and Mountain View.
Beaudin earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, as well as a Master of Science in Planning from the University of Toronto. Beaudin is a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and the Senior Executive Institute at the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service. He is also certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a member of the International City/County Management Association. With formal approval of the employment contract by the Council, Beaudin’s salary will be $280,000 annually when he rejoins the City of Pleasanton as its city manager on May 23, 2022.

Following the Council’s action, Mr. Beaudin said “I am honored to have been appointed as Pleasanton’s city manager.
