Happy Father's Day To Joseph Scheffelin

In celebration of Father's Day on Sunday June 17, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their father and let us deliver it. This is Joanna Schefflin and family's letter to their dad:

Dear Dad,

You are so special to us for so many reasons, but just to name a few...

• You are exceptionally kind and giving.
• You always have something interesting to say about some cool new science or political topic.
• Growing up you were always there for us, whether it be helping with homework or cheering us on at events.
• You were always home for our family dinners and dog walks around the neighborhood.
• You supported us all the way through school and college and set a great example for us to look up to.
• Now that we are grown up you are always there for support when we need it.
• Your piano playing always brightens the mood and has instilled a love for music within me.

I think the biggest wake-up call for all of us was when your cancer diagnosis came. I think we really took for granted that you would always be around, and the thought that we could actually lose you was really hard to bear. But several years, a wedding and a grandchild later, we are so thankful to still have you in our lives. I know it has been an extremely tough last few years, but seeing how brave you have been through all the struggles and your great attitude through everything is something I really look up to.

We love you and are so happy to have you as a father.
