Kelly Burke Is Trusted with the Most Important ‘Treasure’ in Poway

Prime Poway Woman No. 13 has worked for Poway Unified for nine years, including as principal.

Kelly Burke has dedicated the last nine years of her life to Poway Unified.

Burke is the principal of Twin Peaks Middle School and previously served as assistant principal at Poway High School, Rancho Bernardo High School and Del Norte High School.

“I have the privilege of being entrusted with the one thing that parents treasure most—their children,” she said. “This is a tremendous honor and responsibility.”

She’s also been involved in a number of sporting events, musical performances and Finish Chelsea’s Run.

Burke, who looks up to women like Condoleezza Rice, said she’s most proud of her daughters.

“They are strong, kind and compassionate young women and I learn from them every day,” she said. “Raising them has not only been rewarding personally, but it has also made me a much stronger teacher and administrator.”

What does Women’s History Month mean to you?

“It provides all of us, men and women, the opportunity to learn about and honor individuals who have positively impacted our families, communities, and our nation’s history. Moreover, my hope is that today’s young men and women realize that they also have the ability and power to effect change.”
