Update: Driver Killed After Car Slams Into Trash Bin Enclosure

The driver was speeding through the Panda Express parking lot on Poway Road and hit a trash bin enclosure.

A car traveling at a high rate of speed in a parking lot on Poway Road drove into a trash bin enclosure Saturday night, killing the driver, according to authorities.

Jayson Romero, 20, of San Diego was the only person in the 1990 Honda Accord and was transported by ambulance to Palomar Medical Center, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. in the parking lot of , 13624 Poway Rd., according to sheriff’s Deputy Mark Karo. A preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot when it hit the metal doors of a concrete trash bin enclosure.

Witnesses told deputies that the vehicle might have been accelerating before it hit the doors. A Medical Examier’s report stated that he was wearing a seat belt.
