Poway All-Star Softball Tournament Hosting More Than 70 Teams

Games will be played through Sunday on fields in Poway and Rancho Bernardo.

The Poway Girls Softball League is proud to host the 20th Annual Poway Heat Summer Classic All-Star Softball Tournament on June 14-17, during Father's Day Weekend. As one of Southern California’s premiere ASA All-Star tournaments, the 2012 PHSC tournament attracted more than 70 teams from 14 different leagues this year.

“When the first games are played on Thursday, June 14, this will be the largest number of teams we have ever hosted in the tournament’s 20-year history,” said Scott Ludwin, PGSL president.

Teams include Poway, Peñasquitos, Escondido, Vista, North Shore, Bonita Valley, Navajo, Clairemont, Mira Mesa, 4S Ranch, UC Del Sol, East County, Peninsula and Alpine.

Games will be held at Aubrey Park, , and . Poway will field seven teams—8U Gold, 10U Gold, 10U Silver, 10U Bronze, 12U Gold, 12U Silver, and 14U Gold—during the tournament. Tournament information is available at the PGSL website. A full schedule is attached to this article in the PDF section.

The league offers a spring recreation season (from late February through late April) and a winterball season (from early September through early November). Players who are new to softball are provided extensive instruction and skill development throughout the year. Players who are more serious about softball are provided the opportunity to discover their full potential through a competitive summer all-star program (from May through July).
