Woman Sexually Assaulted Monday Night

A woman walking along Vaughn Avenue was assaulted just after 10 p.m. The suspect has not been located.

A woman walking in the 12400 block of Vaughn Road just after 10 p.m. Monday night was sexually assaulted by a man that approached her and forced her to the ground, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The woman was able to eventually kick the man off of her and he fled westbound on Vaughn Road, according to Sgt. Tim Matzkiw. Deputies searched the area for the suspect, using a helicopter and canine unit, but did not locate him.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic, possibly in his early 20s, short hair, goatee, wearing a white, dirty T-shirt and dark sweatpants.

The woman was walking westbound on Vaughn Road when the suspect approached her from the south side of the street, according to Matzkiw. The suspect attempted to force her into a drainage ditch, and the woman grabbed a chain-link fence to keep from being forced into the ditch. He eventually forced her to the ground, where she was assaulted, according to Matzkiw.

Deputies from the Poway station are continuing the investigation.
