1. Quincy Expands Curbside Recycling to East Quincy with New County Contract Starting 2026 (sierradailynews.com) — Quincy and East Quincy residents will see big changes to trash and recycling starting January 1, 2026, including new curbside recycling in East Quincy and higher monthly rates in downtown Quincy. Under a new Plumas County contract with Feather River Disposal, all American Valley Community Services District customers will get biweekly recycling pickup, with rates locked in for 18 months before a scheduled increase.
   

2. Plumas National Forest plans pile burns on two districts (plumassun.org) — Smoke from large prescribed pile burns on the Mount Hough Ranger District will be visible from Quincy and along Highways 70 and 89 over the next few days, though impacts are expected to be minor and short term. Firefighters are treating hundreds of acres of piles near Grizzly Ridge, Mount Hough, Antelope Lake and Taylor Lake, and ask drivers to watch for reduced visibility and crews working along nearby roads.
   

3. Local group awards 11 grants (plumassun.org) — A local charitable fund has awarded 11 grants across Plumas County, including support for Wild Hare, a small business in Quincy. Other grants back KQNY Community Radio, Indian Valley businesses and events, youth education programs, and recovery efforts for communities affected by the Dixie Fire, with another grant cycle planned for 2026.
   

4. Ex-CHP officer convicted in Sacramento County workers' compensation fraud case (sacbee.com) — A former California Highway Patrol officer has been sentenced for workers’ compensation fraud after claiming he was too injured to work while allegedly doing strenuous labor on property he bought in the Quincy area. Prosecutors say he sought a medical retirement and benefits, but investigators documented him cutting trees and operating heavy equipment on his Plumas County land, leading to jail time, restitution, and loss of pension.
