Agua Caliente County Park Now Open for Camping, Recreation

There are seven new cabins that rent for $75 a night.

After a late start, Agua Caliente County Park is open for business and better than ever. With cabins to rent, loads of natural beauty and big horn sheep to watch, the park makes for an attractive weekend getaway.

The park usually opens on Labor Day, but a series of thunderstorms in August sent a flash flood rushing through the grounds and washing out nearly 80 percent of its camping space.

Sand was trucked in, and rangers borrowed from other parks worked to restore devastated roads. In the end, the park wasn't just repaired, it was also improved,. Gates opened to the public on Oct. 15.

The park features seven new cabins that rent for $75 a night and offer some basic amenities: a dining table and four chairs, two queen-size bed platforms—you supply the air mattress and bedding—a sink, and a private toilet. Cabins have electricity, and are temperature controlled. There are showers nearby. Cooking must be done outside.

Pets, tents and RVs are not allowed at the cabin sites, but there are plenty of tent and hookup sites on the grounds that range from $29 to $34 a night. Altogether, there are 140 camping sites.

Campers can enjoy horseshoes and shuffleboard, hiking trails, two outdoor pools, and an indoor therapeutic spa with jets that is heated to 102° F.

The park is open for day use from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the season, which last until the end of May.

For more information, call 760-765-1188. To make reservations, call 877-565-3600 or visit the park's web site to make reservations online.
