[Photo] Bee Calm and Play On
A colony of honeybees was found on the playground at the rec department in the Country Estates Monday—they were humanely taken away.
There was lots of buzz going on Monday over at the San Diego Country Estates Association Recreation Department's playground.
Joanne Rivera, who works for the rec department, told Patch that a huge bee colony was found on the ground.
"We called 'The Bee Man' and he brought a bee box out to the site, set it down next to them and they miraculously just filed in," Rivera wrote. "It took less than an hour and most of them were safely inside the box."

The SDCEA employee said Rex Harvey, the Bee Man, took the box and the children were free to play on.
"Rex was very professional and educated the kids on fascinating bee facts... he has has been tending to the bees for 36 years now and says he knows the personalities of bees better than those of people," Rivera said. "He explained that this colony was on the ground because the queen must have fallen to the ground and the colony protects the queen so they surrounded her."

Rivera said Harvey was planning to relocate the bees to his property.
