Caravans of Trucks Along Elm Street Take Soil to Seal Landfill

Allied Waste, the owner of Ramona Landfill on Pamo Road, is bringing in soil to seal the now closed location.

Ramona Landfill stopped receiving disposed material June 10 but the procedure to fully close the location will take some more time.

Residents on Elm Street asked Patch to find out why so many trucks are going back and forth.

Michael Drake, a spokesman for County Public Works, said Thursday that Allied Waste, the owner of the landfill, is sending dump trucks full of soil to the landfill to seal it off.

What appear to be compaction vehicles were visible on the landfill from the side of the road Thursday and about a dozen trucks came and went in the space of 20 minutes.

Burns and Sons Trucking is supplying trucks. One of their staff said the number of trucks being used is different every day.

Residents say the truck traffic has been ongoing "for a month or two."

The supervisor at Ramona Landfill, Thurston Thompson, said he couldn't talk for long because he had "a lot of trucks out here." He offered to give us more information on Friday.

So Patch placed a call late Thursday afternoon to General Manager Neil Moore.

Patch will update this story with more information as it becomes available from Allied Waste.

Ramona Landfill is at 20630 Pamo Road.
