Does Santee Have Too Many Red Lights?
Patch asked our Facebook readers if there are too many red lights in Santee. Find out what your neighbors told us.

If you’re frustrated with the red light situation in Santee, you are in good company.
While stop lights are one of the necessary evils of commuting, they don’t guarantee safety for pedestrians or cooperation from drivers.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, red-light running is the number one cause of urban crashes. Furthermore in 2013, approximately 127,000 people were injured in red-light related accidents.

In August 2015, the National Coalition for Safer Roads released an interactive safety map that would allow users to see the number of red-light running deaths in their area as part of the group’s ‘Stop on Red’ initiative.
At Patch, we appreciate that our readers and motorists know the stop lights in Santee best. We asked you on Facebook how you felt about the red lights in our area. Could Santee use more red lights? Are there too many? What intersections need a stop light, or can we get rid of one?

Here’s what readers said on social media:
-"We moved here 23 years ago. We wanted to raise our family in a small safe city. Well the city is still somewhat safe, but no longer small. The traffic is a nightmare the 52 didn't ease it as much as we all hoped it would. The building of stores has gotten out of hand and we definitely don't need the houses going up a cross from West Hills. Definitely thinking of moving further east. Santee is no longer the small city it was."
-"Too many and it's growing way to big. Town is a nightmare to get through. No more lights. We also don't need anymore houses going in by the high school."
- "I think perception is reality. I timed myself going from West Hills Parkway to Target on Saturday around noon. I did stop at several lights and it seemed busy but bottom line, it took me less than 10 minutes. Not a big deal."
-"Way too many lights/stop signs and there is more coming. Don't ever go on MG period and Mast is getting like MG. The newest light by west hills always turns red on me when nobody is there."
-"Serious? Way too many and over populated now. On the weekends I don't ever go down to mission gorge. I leave Santee."
-"Stop lights.....seems there are more and more of them popping up..."
-"Too many and people are always going through them like if they have a green light !!!!"
-"They need to finish Mast, so the residents on the far side of town can get to the 67 easier."
